A Mini Reset for Sharing the Load

You Do Not Have to Carry Every Detail

Caring about the outcome does not mean every task has to stay in your hands. Choose one clear piece someone else can truly carry.

By Ayesha Boger Crawford · October 4, 2026 · 3 min read

Sometimes delegation feels harder than doing the task yourself—especially when the full picture lives in your head. But carrying everything alone is not the only way to protect what matters.

Share one whole piece

Instead of asking someone to ‘help with everything,’ choose one complete responsibility: greet guests, pick up refreshments, manage one station, confirm the supply list, or make the follow-up call.

Explain the outcome, the deadline, and the few details that cannot change. Then leave room for the person to complete it without copying every step you would take.

Support becomes real when another person can own a piece from beginning to end—not only stand beside you while you continue holding it.

Receiving help is part of the work

You may still need to answer a question or check in. That does not mean asking was a mistake. Shared work takes practice, trust, and clear communication.

Notice the thought that says, ‘It is easier if I do it.’ Sometimes that is true for five minutes and costly for the rest of the week.

Choose one detail you can release today. Let somebody help before you become too tired to enjoy what you are creating.

You can have a clear vision and still have support. The work does not become less yours because you let someone carry a real part of it.

What are you carrying that you need permission to put down?

You do not have to answer publicly. Just tell yourself the truth.
